The 28th ifva Awards Presentation Ceremony was held successfully. The complete result list is now available.
The 28th ifva Festival
The 28th ifva Festival (2 - 11 March, 2023) will showcase short films, animations, media artworks for five categories from different Asian countries and regions together with those from Hong Kong talents. Together with the VR Special Prize empowered by Meta, the works respond to not only struggles of life and death, but also heart-lifting daily episodes. Other festival highlights include the Media Arts exhibition "CINEMA 2.0: Illuminating Vacuum", a time-limited Pop-up VR Cinema, "We Need to Talk about VR" Conversations, creative film showcase by "All About Us" ethnic minority youth participants, as well as the solo exhibition of Lau Ching-wa Jess, awardee of the 27th ifva Media Art Category Gold Award.

All About Us Film Festival 2022
The 2nd All About Us Film Festival was initiated, screening local and overseas works themed around ethnic minorities, aiming to break down the boundaries of race, border, language and gender, and let the voices of diversity be heard. All About Us Film Festival will be held from 28 October to 30 October, at the Hong Kong Arts Centre Louis Koo Cinema with post-screening discussion on selected programmes.

The 27th ifva Awards Finalist Showcase
The 27th ifva Awards Finalist Showcase would take their way back to the cinema, to celebrate the power of creativity with all the film lovers! Finalists from different Asian countries and regions together with short films and animations from Hong Kong talents, they have made spontaneous responses to intertwining issues under the new normal, such as staying alive and death, separation and reunion, memories and reality. A total of six screenings will be showcasing the finalist works of four ifva categories. Screenings are to be held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre Louis Koo Cinema from 2 to 3 July, with post-screening discussion in selected programmes.
The 27th ifva Awards Results Announcement
Organised by Hong Kong Arts Centre, the 27th ifva Award Ceremony was held on 12 March 7pm online with the announcement of award results. Due to the pandemic, the screenings and exhibition of finalist works were unable to take place, jury meetings were held. Special thanks to all jurors for their invaluable time and contribution during the selection process, a total of 18 awards were handed out to five categories of short films, animation and media art finalists.

All About Us Film Festival 2021
All About Us Film Festival 2021 will be held from 30 October to 20 November! ifva has always been keen to promote the creation of short films and moving images, and presented the first edition of “All About Us” creative media education programme for ethnic minority youths in 2009, with numerous short films made and produced over the years. Entering its eleventh year, the first All About Us Film Festival will be held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre Louis Koo Cinema, which includes the cinema premiere of Ryan Chan’s Golden Horse nominated short film The Poem of Pakistan, “All About Us” alumni and new actor who debuted with Hand Rolled Cigarette Bipin Karma’s directorial new short Melting Pot, Wan King-fai’s feature documentary Gone With Wind, and a series of selected short films by “All About Us” students and local creatives. On top of cinema screenings, a series of community screenings will also be held. This is a precious chance for members to speak for diversity and break down the boundaries in terms of race, language, and gender.

The 26th ifva Festival commence in Late February | Persevere for the Rarest Flower to Blossom
Organised by Hong Kong Arts Centre, the programme line-up of the 26th ifva Festival is officially unveiled. The 26th ifva Festival will commence on 24 February 2021!

This year ifva invites local director Jun Li (director of Tracey), the Silver Award winner of the 24th ifva Awards Open Category as the art director, where he created a series of festival publicity collaterals and trailers. The trailer of ifva Festival is led by Patra Au, the 39th Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress, and local indie singer-songwriter Wong Hin-yan. Questions on life, art, our community and the world are raised, until Wong’s electronic music interferes that leads Au to dance along. The promotional poster features a number of gingers all in different shapes and postures that lean on each other, while in the middle is a ginger flower that is rare to blossom. The road to create is never a pleasant one, and only if you persevere then the best scenery is ahead to behold.

Why would audience be immersed into the filmic realm on cinema screens, and falsefully take that as the reality? After all, they are just looking at moving images that are not real, aren’t they?
How do we define the ‘real’ and the ‘fantasy’ in cinema? Who should be the one to define? And in what grounds should we define? How can audiences be deceived?

The 25th ifva Awards Finalist Showcase
And then the city never looks the same again. Finalist works of the 25th ifva Awards are indeed visual records of the city, and also a collection of works with utmost honesty of the creative talents. In this remarkable moment of the era, join the creators and move forward against all odds.

A total of six screenings will be showcasing the finalist works of four ifva categories and creative shorts by participating students of All About Us. Screenings are to be held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre Louis Koo Cinema from 6 to 8 August, with post-screening discussion and certificate presentation ceremony.

"Jockey Club ifva Everywhere – People Cinema"will move from open-air screening to Internet this week. Two classic short films from ifva Awards Open Category will go live on YouTube -- Wong Sau-ping’s Glowing on 8 May, and Mak Hei-yan's Lovers' Lover on 9 May respectively. Wong won the Best New Director for his movie The Way We Dance, while Mak also won the Best Screenplay at Hong Kong Film Awards. The directors will join our online sharing LIVE with guests Chan Hon-yan, The 25th ifva Award Open Category Gold Award Winner and Lo Chun-yip (Siu yea), nominee of Best Supporting Actor of this year. Let’s discover the world of independent films at home together!
The 25th ifva Awards Results Announcement
Organised by Hong Kong Arts Centre and sponsored by Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), all public screenings and showcases of finalist works of the 25th ifva Festival were cancelled due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. The jury meetings, however, continued and the awards results of a total of 20 awards for 5 categories were announced online on 7 March.
Programme cancellation and refund of The 25th ifva Festival
In view of the novel coronavirus outbreak, the programme of the 25th ifva Festival will be cancelled or postponed. Tickets of all paid programmes can be refunded. They are: The 25th ifva Awards - Open Category Finalist Showcase Programme 1 ; Open Category Finalist Showcase Programme 2 ; Youth Category Finalist Showcase; Animation Category Finalist Showcase ; Asian New Force Category Finalist Showcase ; and Filmorphosis: Mak Siu-fung's 50,000 Hours . Jockey Club ifva Everywhere – People Cinema will present two films of Japanese director Ishii Yuya, Best Director awardee of 2013 Japanese Academy Awards, in two nights this October at the Rooftop Garden, D2 Place One in Lai Chi Kok, including The Tokyo Night Sky is Always the Densest Shade of Blue on 4 October, and The Great Passage on 5 October respectively. “Living in this age makes me disturbed.” Life in the big city is tough. Even the most mundane of life's daily routines prove an unending struggle. Prolific Japanese filmmaker Yuya Ishii gently captures the dizzying beauty and the weighs of pain and joy as a poetical exploration. Come and taste the sweetness and bitterness of life at the rooftop under Hong Kong starry sky!

The 25th ifva Awards Press Conference Successfully Held
The 25th ifva Awards is calling for entry now. Hong Kong Arts Centre has enjoyed the presence of guests at the press conference held today including film directors, creative talents and jurors of this year’s ifva Awards: Sham Ka-ki (Hong Kong actor), Heiward Mak (director and playwright of Fagara), Jevons Au (director of Distinction), Nero Ng (director and multimedia creative talent), Tsang Tsui-shan (director of The Lady Improper), Lo Chun-yip (independent filmmaker and actor), Lo Che-ying (veteran animator) and Tsui Ka-hei (animation director). The press conference was also attended by Mable Ho (Head of Film Programmes Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department), Connie Lam (Executive Director, Hong Kong Arts Centre) and Kattie Fan (ifva Director, Hong Kong Arts Centre).

"Nevertheless, History Continues" Media Arts Exhibition
Co-presented by Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong, ifva, Hong Kong Arts Centre, and MMCA (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea) Residency Goyang, the exhibition commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the Establishment of the Korean Provisional Government, by spotlighting the meaning of the March 1st Movement with worldwide and contemporary perspective, and interprets it through media art works of four artists from Korea and three from Hong Kong.

The 24th ifva Awards Presentation Ceremony Successfully Held!
Organised by the Hong Kong Arts Centre and sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the 24th ifva Awards Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 16 March, at the Louis Koo Cinema, Hong Kong Arts Centre. A total of 15 awards for four shorts categories had been given out. Jury meeting transcript of all categories will be published soon!

The 24th ifva Festival Unveiled!
The 24th ifva Awards Opening Ceremony was held on 6 March. Alongside the ceremony is the unveiling of media arts exhibition “CINEMA 2.0: Acrylic Dreams”and finalists’ works from Media Art Category, ifva Awards. The winners: Gold Award and Silver Award go to, respectively, Hu Ching-chuan That・This and Carla Chan Between Happening; and Special Mention goes to Katsuki Nogami HeartfletSPAM.
