Artist’s Statement

GUNKWORLD challenges traditional ideas of good animation" in western character animation college films. It explores the potential of crudeness and ambiguity through attractive cutehorror- cult" designs and limited animation, while weaving a narrative that raises questions about the very formats it plays with (episodes & advertisements). The piece intentionally overloads viewers with loud and compressed visuals, audio, stories and designs, playing with ideas of hypnotic subconscious consumption. GUNKWORLD is a love letter to Japanese media-as seen from the eyes of a 90s Singaporean child.
