Categories
Short Film
Open Category
Entrants must be at the age of 18 or above, Hong Kong permanent residents.
Youth Category
Entrants must be at the age of 17 or below, Hong Kong permanent residents.
Asian New Force Category
Entrants have no age restriction. Entrants must be nationals / permanent residents of Asian countries and regions (excluding Hong Kong).
Animation
Animation Category
Entries must be animation works. Entrants have no age restriction. Entrants can be Hong Kong permanent residents (Hong Kong Division), or nationals / permanent residents of Asian countries and regions (Asia Division). All entries from Hong Kong and Asia will be assessed together.
Media Art
Media Art Category
Entries must be media artworks. Digital art, interactive media, computer game, sound art, kinetic art and any other time-based installation are all welcomed. Entrants have no age restriction. Entrants can be Hong Kong permanent residents (Hong Kong Division), or nationals / permanent residents of Asian countries and regions (Asia Division). All entries from Hong Kong and Asia will be assessed together.

  • Entries must be produced on or after 1 October 2018. Works that have been updated after the said date are also eligible.
  • The maximum running time of Entries (except those of Media Art Category) is 30 minutes (including end credits).
 

Media Art Category

 
  • Entry must be a Completed Work.
  • Media Art works can be in all forms and formats. Digital art, interactive media, computer game, sound art, kinetic art and any other time-based installation are all welcome.

Remarks:

  1. All Animation and Media Art Category Finalist works will be showcased in “The 25th ifva Festival” which will be held in February to March 2020. Roundtrip flight tickets will be partially subsidised and hotel accommodation will be provided for those finalists in Asia Division.
  2. Cash prizes of Open, Youth, Animation and Asian New Force Category are sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
  3. Cash prize of Media Art Category are sponsored by the Pure Art Foundation.
  4. One Festival Visit sponsored by Goethe-Institut Hongkong will be granted to the Award winner of Media Art Category (top award for Hong Kong Division). The winner will attend transmediale (in Germany, February 2021). One roundtrip flight ticket (economic class) and 6-day-5-night accommodation will be sponsored.
  5. Selected finalist of Media Art Category (Hong Kong Division) may receive invitation to hold a solo exhibition at the Goethe-Gallery in December 2020, co-presented by ifva and Goethe-Institut Hongkong.
  6. Winner of the Gold Award in the Open Category will be granted accreditation for overseas film festivals to attend Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (in Bucheon, South Korea, June 2020) and Singapore International Film Festival (in Singapore, November 2020).
  7. Winners of the Gold Award in the Open and Youth Categories, and award winner in Animation Category (Hong Kong Division), will be subsidised under the “HONG KONG SHORT FILM: NEW ACTION EXPRESS” scheme which offers funding to awarded works nominated to participate in overseas film festivals. The subsidy for each awarded work is no more than HKD $50,000. Details: www.naehk.com
  8. In the event of more than one entries receiving an award, the Organiser reserves the right to redistribute the cash prizes according to the original ratio among specific awards assigned to the category. Each award must not exceed its ceiling amount.
  9. The Jury Panel reserves the right to withhold an award if they find none of the Entry merits a particular award and prize.

Call for Nomination
Looking for quality short films, animations and media art works
As a platform and an incubator for film and visual media, ifva hopes to see more creative power from Hong Kong and Asia. Academic staff, festival promoters, curators, industry people and all general member of public are invited to recommend short films, animations and media art works to us.
 
Nominations are recommendations. Please submit your nominations on or before 8 October 2019. On completion of a form, the nominee will be contacted by us. Works must be formally submitted by the artists themselves prior to the submission deadline (14 October 2019) and in accordance with all competition criteria in order to be entered in the 25th ifva Awards.
